You can always search themes from WordPress free themes directory. Firstly login WordPress dashboard and next to click  Appearance -> themes -> Add New

Next screen, you can select from : Featured, Popular, Latest, Favorite WordPress Themes. You can apply Feature Filter (like Layout, Features, Subjects) or search for themes with specific features.

you will see a single theme or a list of themes, these are based on your search. You can choose your favorite theme. Here we are using latest theme Mercia and you can use any.

Bring your mouse on that theme and you can check Details & Preview. Click install button for installing. After installing Activate theme.

you can download any .zip file for the theme and upload it directly using any of the below given two methods.

#2 Download, Upload and Install Theme 

At the top, you’ll see Upload Theme option, click that button and Browse your computer files and select the .ZIP file for your downloaded extension.

#3 Manually, installed Theme using FTP

Firstly, you must unzip the folders before you upload Theme using FTP. Once you have uploaded the Theme, you would need to go to your admin area(Dashboard) and click  Appearance -> Themes. You can see Theme that you uploaded. Bring your mouse on top of that Theme and click on the activate button.

How to Install WordPress using XAMPP

Here’s a quick 5 minute procedure to Install WordPress Offline. In order to run WordPress offline, you need an Apache server and MySQL database(PhpMyAdmin) installed on your system.

Step 1:  Download WordPress .zip file

First, you need to go to wordpress.org and for download the latest version of WordPress.

Now, download WordPress.

STEP 2: ADD THE WORDPRESS FILES IN THE RIGHT FOLDER

After downloading WordPress, you need to extract the zip file in the right folder, where you installed XAMPP, there you will find a folder by name htdocs, open it and create a new folder myblog.  For example, if you make the folder myblog, you’ll access your site by going to http://localhost/myblog

Open the folder myblog and extract the WordPress .zip file you downloaded from wordpress.org into it:

STEP 3: CREATE A DATABASE FOR WORDPRESS

• Open XAMPP Control Panel
• MySQL – Click Admin for launch PHPMyAdmin

Then click on Databases at the top:

Create database and enter a name for your database and click Create. Your name can be anything – just remember it because you’ll need it for the next step:

STEP 4: RUN THE WORDPRESS INSTALLER

Open your browser window and type http://localhost/myblog

STEP 5: SETUP DATABASE FOR THE WORDPRESS INSTALLER

Before getting started, you need some information on the database like Database name, Database username, Database passwords, Database host, Table prefix.

when you haven’t created a MySQL username and password. In that case, you need to type in “root” for the user and leave the password field blank and click Submit.

WordPress can now communicate with your database, and ready to install.

STEP 6: SETUP THE WEBSITE INFORMATION

In this step, enter a website title, username, password, and email address then submit

Now, you are successfully install WordPress.

Good job, You now have a fully functional WordPress website running on your computer.

Download and Install XAMPP On Windows

To download and install XAMPP on your Windows, use the following steps:

1: Go to the Apache Friends website to download the latest version of XAMPP for Windows.

2: Click the Save File button to download setup.

3: After download, click the xampp-win32-7.3.1-0-VC15-installer.exe file to launch the installer.

During the install process, sometimes you may receive warnings such as “Do you want to run this file?“. If you are running antivirus software, you might get a warning like this. It is a security warning to make sure that the user really want to take an action. It’s a safety feature once you install any software on Windows, use your best judgment, but here you can click the Yes button to continue with installation.

4: Next you will see the Welcome to the XAMPP Setup Wizard screen. Click the Next button to continue.

5: All components are checked by default so no need to change anything and click the Next button to continue.

6: Next you can choose a folder to install XAMPP, in my case it’s C:/xampp as i am installing XAMPP in C drive, you can set yours where you would like to install and click the Next button to continue.

7: XAMPP will begin extracting files to the location.

8: Setup is now ready to installing XAMPP on your computer, click the Next button to continue.

9: Now it will start installing process.

10: Click the Finish button to Completing the XAMPP Setup Wizard.

11: Select Language and click the Save button.

12: The XAMPP Control Panel allows you to manually start and stop Apache and MySQL. Now start the Apache and MySQL.

When you have large SQL file and you want to import existing data from other installation or from host.  First you need to export the data. But sometime we may face such a situation, import large sql file in XAMPP.

In this article you will learn how to import large sql file with the command prompt in XAMPP for Windows.

We will use Command-Line Tools (Shell) to import large database SQL file.

Import mysql db using command line is very simple statements, effective and fast compare to importing huge database from phpmyadmin. There are one more advantage using this method the default mysql db upload file size is doesn’t a matter using Command-Line Tools (Shell).

#1. Open the XAMPP Control Panel

Make sure Apache and MySQL are running and click the Shell button in the XAMPP Control Panel.

#2. To import database, use the following command

mysql -u username -p database_name < "/path/file.sql"

Where:

• username – your MySQL username. e.g. root
• database_name – database name you are importing to
• /path/file.sql – full path to your .sql file

when you haven’t created a MySQL username. In that case, you need to type “root” for the username.

Note: On the below screen command, you will define own define own database name. The database name will be the one that you created in the phpMyAdmin and would like to import to SQL file. In our case, we have database name “the_code_developer”.

Enter password: (leave it blank, it’s not set by default) and click enter to continue process.

#3. If you want to see import process to screen then use the following command

mysql -u username -p -v database_name < "/path/file.sql"

Once your database SQL file successfully import then you will get following response like in the below image.
